When you want AI to do real work (not just generate ideas), the prompt has to tell it what you have, what you need, and how you want the output structured. Our team uses the following 10 prompts as reliable “starting templates” for turning messy information into clear decisions—especially for reporting and data summaries. For a deeper walkthrough of building clean summaries from complex datasets, see our guide: https://candorale.com/guide-ai-data-summaries-clear-reports-from-complex-data/.
“Summarize the text below into 5 bullet points for an executive. Include: key outcomes, numbers, risks, and next steps. Text: [paste].”
“Using the table below, write a clear report with sections: Overview, Key Trends, Outliers, Likely Drivers, Recommendations. Table: [paste].”
“Compare Period A vs Period B using the data provided. List the top 5 drivers of change with supporting figures and a short explanation for each.”
“Scan this data for unusual spikes/drops. Return a ranked list of anomalies, why they’re unusual, and 3 hypotheses to test.”
“Write a monthly KPI narrative for leadership: wins, misses, root causes, and actions. Use a confident, neutral tone. Data: [paste].”
“Cluster the comments into 6–10 themes. For each theme, provide a definition, 2 example quotes, and an impact estimate (High/Med/Low). Comments: [paste].”
“Based on these findings, produce a 30/60/90-day action plan with owners, effort level, expected impact, and dependencies.”
“Write a 150-word update email summarizing the situation, what changed, what we’re doing next, and what we need from recipients.”
“List the assumptions behind this conclusion. For each, suggest how to validate it and what would change if it’s wrong.”
“Extract structured fields from the text into a table with columns: [columns]. Flag missing values and ambiguities. Text: [paste].”
Provide a short data dictionary (what each column means, units, and time range) and specify the exact output format you want (sections, bullet counts, and required metrics). Also tell AI what to ignore (duplicate rows, incomplete dates, or test entries) so it doesn’t summarize noise.
